Gisela Dulko le dijo adiós al torneo de Indian Wells

Tras haber dado la sorpresa al eliminar a la belga Justine Henin, la tenista argentina cayó por 6-1 y 6-0 ante la polaca Agnieszka Radwanska, 8º del ranking de la WTA

En poco más de una hora de juego, la argentina Gisella Dulko, 37º del ranking, cayó por 6-1 y 6-0 ante la polaca Agnieszka Radwanska en la tercera ronda del torneo Masters 1000 de Indian Wells.

La tenista venía de vencer, en la segunda ronda del torneo, a la belga Justine Henin, ex número uno del mundo, por 6-2, 1-6 y 6-4.

El torneo, disputado en California, Estados Unidos, reparte más de tres millones de dólares en premios, tanto para las mujeres como para los hombres

Q. Was this a different Henin at all, could you tell, than the one who played before her retirement? Was she less intimidating? Was it any different for you?
GISELA DULKO: Well, yes, I think so. You know, I was a different player today than the last time we play, you know.
I think I came out on the court, you know, trying to win the match since the first point, you know. Maybe last time I was a little bit more looking how she was playing and looking more at her than looking at me, so I think that was a big difference today.

Q. How did you mentally approach that last game, because you had the lead? She came back and you had to step up and finish the match. What was going through your mind at that time?
GISELA DULKO: It was tough. I was a little bit nerves from 5-2 to 5-4, you know. I think maybe it was the last chance for me to win the match, you know, with my serve and 5-4 up.
So I tried to focus really well the last game, put my first serves in, and I was starting with double faults. So I tried to focus on that, put first serves, and just play solid and play the same way I was playing the match. It’s good it worked at the end.

Q. You won that last game at love. Was that very satisfying to you?
GISELA DULKO: For sure it was. I didn’t suffer as much, you know. You know, last point was very good.
I think she — after — before that she did a few mistakes, and that helped me. I was really solid in that game. I didn’t miss the ball.
So that was my main goal, you know, to play aggressive and try and not miss. Well, it worked.

Q. You’ve had huge wins, obviously beating Sharapova and Ivanovic. How does this win compare for you to the other wins you’ve had?
GISELA DULKO: Well, every win is special, you know, but today was really I was really emotional out there. I couldn’t believe at the beginning I actually won the match, you know.
I really like Justine, how she plays tennis. I think she’s a great champion. I mean, I think it’s my favorite player on the tour now is her, you know. So it was — it was big for me tonight. So I’m really happy.

Q. You noted that she is a great champion, but did you find that her game has regressed since she took the time off before coming back?
GISELA DULKO: Well, I don’t think so. She did a final in Australian Open, and she was she’s playing, I mean, unbelievable tennis. It wasn’t so tough for her to come back, you know, to the great level, so, no, I don’t think so.
I think she plays good. Maybe today she had a few mistakes there and there, but I think I played a great match, and I don’t think her level now is less than before.

Q. Seems like you’ve flattened out your forehand a little more and play a little more, you know, aggressive, offensive. How do you feel your game has evolved over the last few years and changed and improved?
GISELA DULKO: Um, yeah, I feel more confident for sure with my tennis. Today was a very, very good match, but I think the key was that I believe I could win the match from the beginning, and I think I showed that.
I was really, really ready mentally to be out there. But I feel, you know, for sure this match give me confidence now. It was the first match for me of the tournament, and I don’t want to I mean, to forget this match and keep playing good tennis. You know, I’m in third round, and I want to go forward.
So this was one really special match because it was Justine, but, you know, now I’m focused for the next one.

La argentina Gisela Dulko vencio a la belga y ex numero uno del mundo, Justin Henin, en tres sets por 6-2 1-6 6-4 en el torneo BNP Paribas Open 2010, el viernes 12 de marzo en Indian Wells.

Dulko denies Henin another dream run

Justine Henin, whose return to tennis has so far yielded two finals appearances in two tournaments – including a Grand Slam runner-up finish – won’t have another dream run here.

Argentina’s Gisela Dulko defeated the former world number one 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 on Friday to reach the third round of the Indian Wells hardcourt tennis tournament, an event Henin won in 2004 and in which Dulko has never made it past the quarter-finals.

“It feels great – I don’t think I can talk right now I’m so excited,” said Dulko, ranked 37th in the world and seeded 31st here. “She’s an unbelievable champion.”

Henin became the first woman to hang up her racquet while still the top ranked player in the world in May 2008, citing fatigue.

But in a spectacular return, she reached the Australian Open final in her first Grand Slam tournament on the comeback trial, losing to current world number one Serena Williams 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Gisela Dulko reaches semifinals in Bogota

Gisela Dulko defeated Sandra Zahlavova 6-2, 6-3 to advance the Copa Colsanitas semifinals.

Dulko has won titles in Europe, Africa and North America and came close to adding to them in last year’s Bogota final. She’s the only semifinalist who has won on the tour.

She will next play against Angelique Kerber, who beat Pauline Parmentier of France 6-1, 6-4.

“The game was very even, I had the normal errors in this altitus (2,650 meters), but I was able to fix them. I seized the opportunity, I was aggressive on my opponent´s second serve that were was not so strong and I think that was one of the keys to winn” said Dulko after the match.

Mariana Duque Marino upset Klara Zakopalova 6-0, 7-6 and will face Arantxa Parra Santonja, who knocked out Sara Errani 7-5, 6-2, in the other semifinal.

Gisela Dulko avanza a semifinales en Bogota

Gisela Dulko arrolló 6-2, 6-3 a la checa Sandra Zahlavova y avanzó el viernes a las semifinales del torneo de la WTA en Bogotá.

Dulko, 35 en el mundo y primera preclasificada, acabó con las ilusiones de Zahlavova (6) en apenas una hora y 10 minutos en la cancha central del Club El Rancho de Bogotá.

La ganadora, finalista en Bogotá en 2009, conectó cuatro aces y rompió el servicio de su oponente en cinco ocasiones.

“El partido fue muy parejo, tuve los errores normales en la altura (2.650 metros), pero supe corregirlos. Aproveché las oportunidades, fui agresiva el segundo saque de mi rival que no era tan sólido y creo que esa fue una de las claves para ganar”, declaró Dulko.

Duque venció 6-0, 7-6 (4) a la checa Klara Zakopalova.

La española Arantxa Parra (8) sorprendió 7-5, 6-2 a la tercera preclasificada y 45 del mundo, la italiana Sara Errani.

“Mi saque me ha ayudado mucho en Bogotá y he podido aprovechar la altura”, indicó Parra.

Duque y Parra disputarán el sábado uno de los partidos de las semifinales, y Dulko enfrentará a la vencedora entre la francesa Pauline Parmentier y la alemana Angelique Kerber (5).

Gisela Dulko avanzó a cuartos en Bogotá

Gisela Dulko se impuso a Edina Gallovits 62 75 y paso a cuartos de final del torneo Abierto de Bogotá donde enfrentara a Sandra Zahlavova.

De gran primer set, y con algunas fisuras en el segundo parcial, en el que estuvo 1-4, la argentina necesitó de una hora y 19 minutos de juego para avanzar a la siguiente instancia en el torneo que la tuvo como finalista hace justo un año.

“Jugar en Bogotá te obliga a estar concentrada todo el tiempo y hoy alcancé a desconcentrarme cinco minutos y por eso estuve abajo en el marcador. No fue fácil y más aquí, con la altura. Pero al final lo pude sacar adelante sin irme al tie-break”, señaló.

“Afortunadamente, por experiencia, sé que si acá ponés presión con tus golpes, les podés hacer mucho daño a tus rivales y eso hice, porque traté de apoyarme mucho en mi saque y en mi derecha”, agregó la argentina.

Lo llamativo es que en el 2009, en su camino a la final de Bogotá, Dulko derrotó a la francesa Mathilde Johansson, a la que esta vez superó en el debut. Y luego venció a Gallovits en semifinales, la que fue su víctima ahora en los octavos de final, siempre en dos sets.

Zahlavova se impuso en octavos por un doble 6-2 a su compatriota Petra Cetkovska.

Rossana De los Ríos, perdió ante Angelique Kerber por 7-6 (7-2) y 6-4.

Sara Errani superó a Silvia Soler Espinosa por 6-3 y 6-1.Y su próxima rival será Arantxa Parra Santonja quien superó por 5-7, 7-6 y 6-4 a Patricia Mayr.

En la prueba de dobles, Dulko se juntó con Gallovits (forman la dupla preclasificada segunda) para vencer a Castaño y la rusa Alina Jidkova por 6-2 y 6-4.

Gisela Dulko reconoció que la altitud por poco le hace perder el partido

Gisela Dulko ratificó hoy su favoritismo al título en la Copa Colsanitas, aunque reconoció que la altitud de 2.640 metros sobre el nivel del mar de Bogotá por poco mina su desempeño frente a Edina Gallovits.

Dulko se adjudicó el primer set por 6-2, pero luego padeció los rigores de la altitud y del elevado calor en la capital colombiana hasta el punto de sufrir para imponerse por 7-5.

“Creo que fue un partido difícil, el primer set lo jugué muy bien, sin muchos errores y haciendo la mayoría de las cosas bien. Se fue dando fácil con un 6-2 para mí pero después con la altura, uno se desconcentra cinco minutos y se te van tres ‘games’ seguidos. Eso fue lo que me pasó en el segundo set”, comentó Dulko.

“Cometí varios errores al principio y eso me costó un 1-4 abajo, pero, bueno, tuve que remontar y concentrarme mucho en el partido. No fue fácil y más aquí, con la altura. Pero al final lo pude sacar sin irme al ‘tie break’”, agregó.

Dulko recordó con agrado su victoria frente a la serbia Ana Ivanovic en el pasado Abierto de Australia y dijo estar preparada para enfrentar a la checa Sandra Zahlavova (6), quien hoy venció por doble 6-2 a su compatriota Petra Cetkovska.

“Jugar con Ana Ivanovic fue muy lindo para mí, nunca le había ganado a ella, y fue muy lindo jugar en uno de los estadios de Australia. Creo que es una rival muy dura, pero yo hice un partido bárbaro, así que me fui muy contenta”, comentó Dulko.

En otros compromisos de octavos de final la española Arantxa Parra logró remontar un 5-7 con el que comenzó jugando ante la austríaca Patricia Mayr, para lograr su paso a los cuartos de final tras registrar un 7-6(5) y 6-4 en los dos siguientes sets.

Sara Errani y Angelique Kerber también aseguraron su paso a la siguiente ronda de la Copa, que entrega premios por 220.000 dólares.

Errani con un juego seguro y contundente superó a la española Silvia Soler con parciales de 6-3 y 6-1, mientras que Kerber derrotó a la paraguaya Rossana de los Ríos por 7-6(2) y 6-4.
